The number of unemployed in Cyprus in the second quarter of the current year reached 15,5% or 68,300 persons, a Labour Force Survey published by Cyprus Statistical Service reads.
The unemployment rate amounted to 15.5% of the labour force (males 16,2% and females 14,6%) recording a decrease from the previous quarter of 2013, 15,9% (males 16,2%, females 15,4%) but an increase from the corresponding quarter of 2012, 11,3% (males 12,1% and females 10,4%).
Furthermore, Also the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 amounted to 40,3% of the labour force of the same age group recording an increase from the previous quarter of 2013, 37,5% and the corresponding quarter of 2012, 25,9%.
The number of employed persons amounted to 373,7 thousand (males 194,5 thousand and females 179,2 thousand) and the number of unemployed persons to 68,3 thousand (males 37,7 thousand and females 30,6 thousand).
The employment rate for persons aged 20-64 was 67,3% (males 72,9% and females 62,1%) recording a decrease from the corresponding quarter of 2012, 70,7% (males 76,8% and females 65,2%).
