Limassol - Four Cypriot teenagers were yesterday remanded for two days in police custody in connection with an investigation into the gang rape of a Limassol school girl.
Speaking to The Cyprus Daily, police spokesperson Nicoletta Tyrimou confirmed authorities are investigating claims that a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by five boys aged 13 to 17.
“The alleged victim has made certain claims and the suspects have given us contradicting statements which are being examined,” Tyrimou said.
“Due to the nature of the case we cannot divulge any further information.”
During yesterday’s closed doors hearing, investigators were granted additional time to question four teens in connection with the case.
Police also questioned a 13-year-old boy, but were not able to keep him in custody because of his age.
Reportedly, the victim had sexual intercourse with one of the suspects at their school during the summer holidays.
The boy is said to have filmed the encounter and threatened to post the video online unless she agreed to have intercourse with four of his friends on the school grounds.
Reports also stated the suspects have admitted to having sex with the girl but claimed it was consensual.
They have denied she was blackmailed or that a video of her was ever taken.
A teacher, who the alleged victim reportedly confided in, alerted police.
