NICOSIA - The Ministry of Communication and Works and the University of Cyprus have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enable the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
The MoU was signed on Monday by Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsopoulos and Rector of the University of Cyprus Professor Constantinos Christofides.
The Minister of Communications said the MoU serves two goals. Firstly, it opens new ways of communication between the state and the University through the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and secondly it links the university with the economy and the market, which would prove to be to the benefit of Cyprus. The Rector of the University urged all to join forces to help Cyprus tackle with the current economic crisis. “The state, the universities and the private sector are the key to help Cyprus exit the crisis”, he pointed out.
He also referred to the ongoing construction of the library of the University of Cyprus and expressed concern that due to the economic difficulties the library’s budget could suffer major cuts.
The Minister said that the library is of an impressive architecture and it would constitute a treasure of knowledge for all Cypriots.
They also talked about the Medical School of the University of Cyprus and the possibility for the Larnaka Hospital to become University Hospital.
