LARNACA - One of two Greek accused in the murder of five men in Ayia Napa’s town centre in June last year, told Larnaca cort that he had been arrested because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Anastasios Tsechilidi, 41 and Dimitris Mamalikopoulou, 29, are accused of five counts of premeditated murder, and firearms and explosives offences. Both plead not guilty.
Tsechilidi claimed that he and his friend were merely on holiday in Ayia Napa and that closed circuit TV footage showing them previously in the area where the killing took place did not indicate a rehearsal for murder.
He told the court that he knew what it was like to lose relatives to murder and that it was an unholy practice.
The trial continues.
