A razor blade barbed wire put up by a local vine grower in the village of Vasa Kilaniou in the Limassol district has caused injury to three dogs and prompted angry protests from the Greens.
One of the dogs, a house pet, was taken to the vet and treated for severe cuts which left its muscles and skin tissue exposed to infections.
Expressing their concern over the safety of animals and people, the Green Party urged local authorities to remove the wire.
“The question is whether any fencing licences were authorised by the District Administration, especially for this type of fencing,” said the Greens.
“It is a clear danger, not just for the fauna but for anyone who tries to cross this murderous fence. Its sharp blades will make no distinction to its victims.”
