NICOSIA - Health Minister Petros Petrides yesterday said he has asked for clarifications in connection with the results of an independent investigation into the death a 57-year-old patient who contracted Hapatitis B after blood transfusion during surgery in January this year.
“I have not accepted the results of the investigation and have asked for clarifications. That says it all. I have seen that perhaps the investigation was not carried out in the right way,” Petrides told The Cyprus Daily yesterday.
Informed sources said the results of the disciplinary investigation into Christakis Andreou’s death had recently shown that human error and procedures were to blame.
The disciplinary probe was completed recently by an independent investigator appointed by the Health Minister a day after Andreou’s death on April 7 – three months after the surgery.
The patient reportedly contracted Hepatitis B from infected blood taken from Larnaca Hospital and transfused to him during surgery at Paphos General Hospital.
