NICOSIA: New Diko president Nicolas Papadopoulos said on Monday the party has no plans to ask Nicos Anastasiades for a government reshuffle.
Speaking to the media after a meeting with Anastasiades, Papadopoulos said the co-operation with the government would continue.
“This issue was not discussed nor do I have any plans to raise this issue for the time being,” he said when asked whether the question of the composition of the government was discussed.
Papadopoulos represented his party at the National Council meeting on Monday – hours after his election. He later held a private meeting with Anastasiades.
Diko has four ministers in the 11 member cabinet.
The Diko MP was elected president of Diko in a tight race against incumbent Marios Garoyian.
On the Cyprus issue, Papadopoulos said he supported the president’s position on the need for agreement on a joint communiqué before talks can start.
Government spokesman Christos Stylianides said the government welcomed the democratic process of every party, adding that the cooperation with Diko was continuing.
