PAPHOS - A youth from Paphos was treated for a bullet wound injury on Tuesday after police fired shots during a car chase.
The 20-year-old, said to be from Kissonergas, was believed to have been a passenger in the car/
According to police, the incident took place on Monday night in the Potimon area connecting the villages of Kissonergas and Peyia.
Traffic police had waved down a vehicle but the driver sped off and a frantic pursuit ensued. During the chase, officers fired shots at the vehicle hitting one of the passengers in the car but they managed to get away. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, staff at Paphos General Hospital treated a young male who had checked himself for a wound to the shoulder. According to doctors, the patient was treated for a bullet wound and underwent surgery. His condition is said to be stable.
Police say that three people were in the car during the chase and that a 22-year-old was the driver.
The other two were later located with the driver confessing that he attempted to escape because they had drugs in the car.
