Cypriot travel agents have joined forces with Ayia Napa hotels to create a festive programme to cater for their Russian customers this Christmas.
This is in response to increased interest from Russians to spend their Christmas and New Years holidays in Cyprus combined with more charter flights from Russia to Cyprus that make this possible, said president of Tourism Development and Promotion Company of Free Famagusta Lakis Avraamides.
He added that this winter more large hotels in the free Famagusta area have remained open in comparison to the same period in previous years. This creates favourable conditions during the festive season to extend winter tourism and attract more tourists especially from Russia
He said that it is expected that the change that has resulted in more fights from Russia to Larnaca this year will attract more Russian tourists to visit the free Famagusta area as there has always been great interest. The festive package offered by Famagusta travel agents will also benefit Larnaca said Avraamides.
He added that Russians celebrate Christmas on January 7 and New Year’s on January 1 but also celebrate our Christmas on December 25.
Avraamides said that if no problems occur with the economy then the benefits of more flights from Russia will start showing from March, at the beginning of the next tourist season. The company is also asking for more flights from Ukraine, Austria and the UK to Larnaca.
