NICOSIA – Thousands marched in Nicosia on Saturday to protest against austerity measures imposed by the Troika as part of Cyprus’ bailout programme. The demo was organised by 20 trade unions and other organisations. Demonstrators gathered outside the Finance Ministry and marched to the Presidential Palace where they handed a petition for President Anastasiades.
The demonstration was peaceful and police maintained a discreet presence. Taking part were organisations from a spectrum of society including trade unions, students’ and farmers’ groups as well as parents’ associations.
