Nicosia – As every year the Electricity Authority of Cyprus will not cut off power supply over Christmas to families that owe it money, Energy Minister George Lakkotrypis said on Monday.
He said that if necessary he would intercede personally to ensure no household goes without power.
On the more general issue of lower electricity rates, the minister said this would be achieved with the supply of natural gas. The national gas company Defa would soon be launching tenders for the supply of natural gas as an interim solution until Cyprus can tap its own resources.
The process is expected to be completed in two months.
