Civil servants have been told they can no longer indulge in traditional souvla lunches on their last day of work ahead of Christmas and New Year.
A Finance Ministry announcement asked the public service to strictly stick to working hours and continue to serve the public without interruption throughout the holidays.
According to the ministry, the instructions were given to ensure the smooth functioning of the civil service and protect its dignity and public image. Many departments of the civil service traditionally stopped work hours earlier on the eve of the two holidays to enjoy a souvla meal they prepared outside their offices.
It remains to be seen whether civil servants will heed the call to relinquish their BBQ time.
