NICOSIA - Unemployment among 15-24-year-olds rose to 38.5% of the local labour force in the last three months of 2013, official figures showed yesterday.
This means there is a drop in unemployment among young people compared to the second quarter of 2013 when it stood at 40.3% and it has risen compared to the corresponding quarter in 2012 when it was 26.4%.
Overall, unemployment came to 16.2% of the labour force in the third quarter of 2013 (men 16.5% and women 16%) recording an increase compared to the previous quarter in 2013.
The number of unemployed persons came to 72, 700 (38,700 men and 34,000 women).
At the same time, the number of people who had a job in the third quarter of 2013 was 374,800 people (196,200 men and 178,600 women).
The employment percentage of people aged 20-64 was 66.9% compared to 67.3% in the previous quarter of 2013 and 70% in the corresponding quarter in 2012.
