NICOSIA - Attorney General Costas Clerides has ordered investigators to collect more statements as police continue to probe allegations of misconduct at the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) and against its governor Panicos Demetriades.
“The Attorney General of the Republic, upon studying the report of the investigating team looking into the case against the Cyprus Central Bank Governor, has ordered the need for further statements”, read a police announcement on Friday.
A few months ago, a criminal investigation was leveled against the Central Bank following allegations of document tampering, forgery and abuse of privileged information. Investigators are also looking into possible irregularities in a deal struck between the central bank and financial consultants Alvarez & Marsal.
Demetriades had previously accused board members of leaking documents from the central bank.
