NICOSIA – An earthquake measuring 5.9 points on the Richter scale was felt throughout Cyprus at around 5.20 on Saturday afternoon.. The Cyprus seismological centre said that the epicentre of the quake was Antalya, the Mediterranean coastal province of Turkey, 208 kilometres northwest of Nicosia. The preliminary magnitude was 5.9. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The quake was particularly noticeable in Nicosia, but was felt throughout the island. A spokeswoman from the Cyprus seismological centre said that that it was particularly felt in high buildings in Nicosia, with reports of small objects being displaced.
Meanwhile, Turkey's seismology centre said an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 has rattled Antalya. NTV television said its epicenter was off the coast of Antalya.There was no immediate report of any injuries or damage.
