As from January 1, new uniform civil service public opening hours came into force ensuring service to the public on weekdays from 8am to 3pm.
The Department of Public Administration and Personnel of the Finance Ministry said this follows a cabinet decision of November 21 to implement the measure of the new public opening hours in all ministries, departments and independent services of public service as from January 1.
The decision was taken within the framework of making changes to civil service hours in order to provide better and more effective service to the public and to businesses.
As for civil servant working hours, the cabinet approved a proposal seeing the civil servant working day change to 7.30am or 8.30am until 3pm or 4pm as from January 1.
This means that individual civil service departments will also no longer be able to decide their own specific hours of being accessible to the public.
Previously working hours for civil servants were from 7am until 2.30pm and until 5pm on Wednesday afternoons.
