Motorists are being urged to renew their road tax before February 9 as no extension will be given on the deadline this year.
Speaking to The Cyprus Daily yesterday, Senior Road Transport Department engineer Yiannis Nicolaides warned that driving without road tax is illegal.
“From today members of the public can renew their road tax and we are urging them to do so as soon as possible to prevent a system overload due to last minute renewals.”
Nicolaides further reminded that a valid MOT certificate and insurance is necessary for the renewal and warned that on February 10 police will begin inspecting and reporting motorists that have not complied with the law.
“Drivers who fail to renew their road tax will face a €30 fine plus 10% of the cost their annual road tax.”
Plans to charge motorists €0.50 for online road tax renewals have been scrapped by the RTD. Road tax can be renewed online at the Road Transport Department website at http://rtd.mcw.gov.cy or at any commercial bank.
