The Jewish lobby had overthrown US President Richard Nixon because he was opposed to the invasion of Cyprus by Turkey - in contradiction to then US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
This is what former Turkish Minister of Health Sivgkin Khalil, the right hand of former Turkish president Turgut Ozal alleged in a television interview this week.
"The Watergate scandal was the result of this nasty attitude of Nixon. Turkey, to be able to intervene in Cyprus, needed the approval of the US. But there was the view that Nixon would not allow this to happen," Khalil told Habel TV channel.
"The third in command at the time was then foreign minister Henry Kissinger. Nixon lost his position, and the number two was also removed. But Kissinger remained in place and he is the one who gave us the opportunity to intervene in Cyprus…the forces (Jewish lobby) that brought down Nixon and the second in command kept in place Jewish-origin Kissinger to be able to intervene in Cyprus," he added.
The former strongman also said that Cyprus for Israel is very important. And that if Cyprus is in the hands of Greece, then the island's predominant Orthodox will not have good relations with Israel.
The policies of Greece and Israel are opposed to each other, he argued.
