NICOSIA - Cyprus and international organizations focusing on air navigation safety will intensify efforts to solve problems created in the island’s airspace as a result of the continued Turkish occupation in the north.
As well as from Turkey’s refusal to cooperate with Cyprus on flight services, Communications and Works Minister Tasos Mitsopoulos also said after talks in Nicosia with President of the European Civil Aviation Conference Catalin Radu.
In the presence of Eurocontrol Director Joe Sultana and Regional Director of the ICAO EUR/NAT Office Louis Fonseca de Almeida.
“We pointed out the need to find a mutually acceptable solution, a solution based on international law which will guarantee flight safety and safety of passengers”, Mitsopoulos said.
There are already some initiatives on the table on how to solve the problems, he also said before noting that efforts will be intensified.
“With the mediation of representatives of these organizations and the European Commission we could reach a temporary technical solution” he added.
Event though the Republic of Cyprus strives for a permanent solution which could be achieved when the Cyprus problem is solved, he said.
