The Electricity Authority has €50 million to collect in delayed bills the House Commerce Committee heard on Tuesday.
The money is owed by companies, hoteliers and household consumers and even the state. Households owe only €4m.
During a meeting of House Commerce Committee, MPs asked the authority to re-examine all the cases of consumers who have had their power cut off for failing to pay their bills.
They asked for the creation of a new category of consumers that will included people with serious health problems among the vulnerable groups entitled to cheaper electricity.
