Police are investigating a potential link between a series of recent attacks on property owned by employees of the Nicosia Horse Race Club.
Speaking to The Cyprus Daily on Wednesday, police spokesman Andreas Angelides confirmed that the authorities have launched probes into five similar arson attacks which occurred during the last 10 days.
“The incidents all targeted employees of the club or people who do business with it. We do not know, however, if the cases are linked, this is currently under investigation.”
The most recent attack occurred on Tuesday evening when the car of a senior racetrack official was torched in an apparent arson attack.
The other four cases involved arson attacks on vehicles belonging to a jockey, a race announcer, a horse owner and LTV crew that was filming at the track.
According to Phileleftheros newspaper, the race club management is extremely concerned over the attacks and is requesting a meeting with the president to request additional security.
