Despite the recent rains only 32% of the average January rainfall had fallen by Tuesday, the Meteorological Service said. It stands at 45% for the period October 1 to January 28.
There are hopes of an improvement, with the Met Office saying heavy rain is expected to continue at least until and including Wednesday.
On Tuesday night increasing cloud cover is expected to lead to isolated rain and or storms mainly in the west and south coasts. In Troodos Mountains there is a possibility for snow or sleet. Temperatures are at 16°C inland, 18°C on the coast and 7°C in the mountains. By tonight temperatures are expected to fall to 8°C inland, 12°C on the coast and 3°C in the mountains.
On Wednesday temperatures will be at 17°C inland, 18°C on the coast and 8°C in the mountains.
There will be a slight increase in temperature on Wednesday and Thursday and a slight decrease on Friday.
