NICOSIA - LIMASSOL - The government  said on Monday it will protest the weekend harassment by a Turkish frigate of a Norwegian seismographic vessel carrying out surveys within Cyprus’ economic exclusive zone.
Defence Minister Fotis Fotiou told journalists in Limassol: “The foreign ministry will lodge relevant protests over the harassment incident before the day’s end…What I want to once again make clear is that Turkey is trying to create a crisis in the region through threats and provocative actions”.
He added: “We are not going to fall into their trap. I believe the best response to Turkey’s provocations is to continue implementing our plans on exploiting hydrocarbon deposits, it is our energy wealth. We are and will continue implementing our plans”.
The Minister also said that the message Cyprus sends out is that sovereign rights will not be given up and that policies drafted will be implemented in full.
In addition, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides called on the US and the UN to take notice of the latest Turkish provocations
