NICOSIA - The last touches are being put for the operation of another five “I Cook and I Offer” kitchens of the Sophia Foundation at all day primary schools in Cyprus.
The programme has already been running successfully at the Sotira 3rd primary school since September 9, 2013.
Officially the kitchens and the feeding programme will be inaugurated at the all-day primary school of Yiolou on Friday, February 7 at 12 noon. It will then be the turn of the all day nursery and primary school of Choirokitia on Tuesday, February 11 also at noon, followed immediately after by the all day primary school of Apsiou.
All the kitchens will be up and running by the end of February.
Through the programme “I Cook and I Offer” the Sophia Foundation builds and equips the kitchens at the all day schools it supports, while jobless mothers from the area cook lunch for the children.
The Sophia Foundation received a massive boost from the charity event Circle of Hope organised by Myrna Pattichis and the Phileleftheros group which raised the money needed for the ambitious and pioneering programme for one full year.
Among the funds raised from the Circle of Hope event were the donations of private companies which help in setting up and equipping the kitchens in the various schools. The kitchen at Yiolou was donated by the Shacolas group, that of Choirokitia by Vasiliko Cement and of Apsiou by Adonis Yiangou and Marina Vryonidou.
The kitchen of the largest of the six schools, the all day school at Erimi is donated by the Bank of Cyprus, and that of Apaisia by the Nasos Ktorides Foundation. The Kyperounta all day primary school kitchen is being donated by the Phileleftheros group.
The kitchens will all be operational by the end of February. The contribution of the technical services of the Education Ministry was also significant.
All this would not have been possible without the support and practical help of the friends and sponsors of the Sophia Foundation and everyone who sponsored the Circle of Hope event of the Phileleftheros group. All together helped make the ambitious project aimed at helping the needy children of Cyprus a success.
