LARNACA – Police are investigating a robbery and arson attack on a jewellery shop during the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the authorities, residents in Hamit Bay Street reported the blaze at around 3.00am. Members of the fire services rushed to the scene and quickly put out the fire. The shop which had been closed for the three months was completely destroyed while the building next to it suffered extensive smoke damage. Upon further inspection police found that the front door and a safe had been forced open. The owner later confirmed that €5,000 in cash had been stolen. Traces of a flammable liquid suggest the fire was maliciously set.
