Agriculture Minister Nicos Kouyialis met Paralimni Municipality as well as other municipalities and communities in the free Famagusta area to discuss the progress of development works in the region and plans to promote them.
Kouyialis and the municipal officials discussed among others the promotion of projects including a fishing shelter in Liopetri and plans to include it in the co-funded Fishing Programme, a management plan to make better use of Achna dam and the possibility of co-funding the construction of water reservoirs for the Paralimni area.
The completion of a sewage project in Kokkinochoria, the immediate promotion of plans to manage farming waste and the development and management of under-construction artificial reefs were also discussed.
Tenders for the largest part of the project in Kokkinochoria which involves the sewage treatment plant in Achna have already been announced and are close to being evaluated and awarded.
The meeting took place in the framework of the minister's initiative for public presentation and discussion of his development policy for 2020 and particularly agricultural reform, green and blue development and the sustainable management of water resources.
The ministry's policies are aimed at restarting the economy with development works on the basis of a complete and targeted design for the entire Famagusta district, by efficiently using all the European funds which are co-financing the implementation of these measures.
Kouyialis called on all mayors, community leaders and other involved parties to contribute to the immediate promotion of the projects in order to achieve the effective utilisation of the European funds with targeted planning and suggestions for mature projects.
