NICOSIA -- Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) employees on Wednesday staged a three hour work stoppage from 8am in protest to privatisation plans.
In a joint announcement, EAC staff unions said that if Cabinet approved a relevant bill and sent it to the House for a final vote then “without any further warning” all the EAC staff would enter into an initial 24-hour work stoppage “and then further escalate measures.”
“The work stoppage aims to publicise our opposition to any effort to privatise the EAC,” the unions said, adding that it was in the interest of all of society to safeguard the country’s electricity supply.
