NICOSIA – The Church of Cyprus is behind fresh efforts by President Anastasiades to reach an overall settlement to the Cyprus problem, Archbishop Chrysostomos said on Thursday.
Talking to journalists after a meeting at the presidential palace with Anastasiades, the Archbishop also said: “The agreed joint communiqué (that kick-started the stalled Cyprus peace talks on Tuesday) is a framework around which the negotiations will be taking place. It is not the end of the Cyprus problem”.
“The government tried its best to improve it. Some provisions were not satisfactory to me either but after interpretations by constitutional experts and consultants on international affairs I’m now satisfied,” he added.
The Archbishop also said that he understands why people are uptight but noted that now is the time for unity and support towards the government and the Greek Cypriot negotiator.
