Cypriot director Paris Erotokritou is now in London working with British director Declan Donnellan and his theatre company Cheek By Jowl that will be staging the play "'Tis Pity She's A Whore" by John Ford.
The play will go on a UK tour starting on February 19 and on an international tour in spring.
It is a vivid and violent Jacobean tragedy which shows a brother and sister's passionate descent into hell.
The play is produced by Cheek by Jowl in a co-production with the Barbican, London, Les Gémeaux/Sceaux/Scène Nationale and Sydney Festival.
Donellan has worked as Associate Director of the Royal National Theatre and has received several awards in Moscow, Paris, New York and London including the Olivier for Outstanding Achievement.
Paris Erotokritou has been a fan of Donnellan for years, since he first read his book "The actor and the target" while studying to become an actor at the Athens Drama school.
A few years later, during his studies to become a director at the The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, he had to pick a mentor and this was the first time he approached Donnellan.
"I was nervous the first time I met him not just because I would meet someone who did great things in theatre, and not just in one country but in three (UK, Russia and France) but also because I really wanted him to match the image I had of him," Paris told online magazine lifo.gr.
Their collaboration kicked off a few months later when Donnellan was looking for an Assistant Director to put up the popular show "'Tis Pity She's A Whore".
Paris was born in Nicosia, 1979. His first degree was at King's College London (LLB Law). He has worked as an actor and director in Greece, Cyprus and the UK.
In 2010, together with Yiannis Gavrielides, he founded Fresh Target Theatre Ensemble. Previous credits include The Lover (H. Pinter), New World Order 1&2 (H.Pinter), Employment Contract (M.Bartlett), Adolf/Churcill (P.Utton), Yerma (F.G Lorca, assistant director), Love and Money (D. Kelly). He also directed his first full-length play "A Slight Risk" which was selected for the Kypria International Festival 2012.
Paris is assistant director to Declan Donnellan for Cheek by Jowl's 'Tis Pity She's a Whore 2014 Barbican and UK/World tour.
