NICOSIA - Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt visits Cyprus on Wednesday for a bilateral meeting with President Nicos Anastasiades.
Thorning-Schmidt is the first head of state to visit the island following the agreement last week to restart the Cyprus peace negotiations, an embassy statement said.
“In her afternoon meeting with Anastasiades the Prime Minister will discuss the landmark agreement to restart the Cyprus negotiations, the implementation of the Cyprus reform program following the economic crisis and the international efforts to remove chemical weapons from Syria,” it added.
The meeting will take place on board the Danish frigate HDMS Esbern Snare which leads the Danish-Norwegian-British task force involved in the removal of Syria’s chemical weapons under the OPCW-UN Joint Mission. Russia and China also provide naval assets to the operation.
The Danish Prime Minister will also meet the multinational crew on board the Danish vessel.
Prior to her visit to ESSN the Prime Minister will discuss the latest developments in Syria with the OPCW-UN Special Coordinator Sigrid Kaag.
