A popular Paphos choir famed locally for its fund-raising efforts for charity has announced a series of spring concerts with a glamorous flavour.
The Zingers, will kick start their Stage and Screen gigs next week, a programme of music which focuses on the worlds of theatre and cinema.
"Most people love the music associated with the movies and musicals, so this is a chance for audiences to enjoy an eclectic mix of this genre," press spokesperson, Karen Roe said. "There will be many new songs performed on the night, along with some all time favourites."
The choir will continue to support the Cancer Patients Support Group, a body which provides practical help to sufferers of the disease and their relatives and carers. Last year the Zingers raised €13,400 for their charity, a sum they aim to exceed this year.
The event is being put on over three nights at two different venues in the district.
Next week the show will be on at The Kefalos Beach Hotel in Paphos and, in April at the Polis Cultural Centre. The evening starts at with champagne cocktails and canapés, before the journey down the West End and theatre land.
"The Kefalos Beach is working closely with us. We know the food is excellent if you want to book a meal before the show it is not expensive."
Tickets are expected to be in short supply for the popular choir.
"We are running this on two nights as the venue is smaller and we usually sell between 150 and 200 tickets for our gigs but we have only 80 available on each night."
The forty-strong group gives its time voluntarily with their common love of music and their objective of supporting charity.
Calling themselves a Contemporary Rock Choir, The Zingers perform music from the 19th century to the present day. The repertoire covers a variety of genres from jazz, swing, rock, pop, Motown, old time music hall and Broadway and is sung a Capella as well as to professional backing tracks. One of the trademark features of the choir is its performance of basic choreography with each number.
"This is our first fundraiser for 2014, it is going to be a great night. We bet the audience will even be singing along," said Roe.
Stage and Screen is on at The Kefalos Beach Hotel on Friday, March 21 and Saturday March 22 at 7pm. Tickets are €15 which includes pre-performance cocktails and canapés. It is sponsored by surveying and property valuation company, Skyy Consultants.
It is also being presented at The Polis Cultural centre Saturday, April 5. Tickets are €7.50 (there will be no cocktails or canapés but refreshments will be available.) The Polis event is sponsored by Blevins Franks and a magnum of champagne will be donated for a free prize draw on the evening.
