NICOSIA -- President Anastasiades on Tuesday appointed Chrystalla Georghadji to take the post of governor of the Centrak Bank, replacing Panicos Demetriades who stepped down on Monday.

Government spokesman Christos Stylianides said that Anastasiades had telephoned the ECB chairman Mario Draghi and informed him of his decision.

Georghadji, currently the auditor general of the republic, was born in Famagusta in 1956 and had worked for the Finance Ministry before she was appointed auditor general in 1998.
