President Anastasiades on Wednesday reshuffled his cabinet bringing in new faces to replace three of the four Diko ministers after the junior coalition party walked out of government.

Philipos Patsalis, an award-winning researcher, is the new health minister replacing Petros Petrides.

Costas Kadis – former CTO chairman – takes over at the education ministry to succeed Kyriacos Kenevezos while economist Marios Demetriades is the new Communications Minister. Current Communications Minister Tasos Mitsopoulos moves to defence vacated by Fotis Fotiou.

They will be officially sworn in on Friday when President Anastasiades will make a public statement as to why he ditched the three Diko ministers but kept former Diko member George Lakkotrypis in the key energy post.

Earlier Wednesday Disy made clear it did not agree with the trio staying at the helm but wanted new faces in the cabinet. The rest of the cabinet remains unchanged.
