New measures to speed up the delivery of justice were announced yesterday by the Justice Ministry a day after Cyprus was ranked 19 on an EU scoreboard of judicial efficiency.
Speaking to the media after a House Institutions Committee meeting, Justice Minister Ionas Nicolaou played down Cyprus’ low ranking saying that it was based on data from 2010 but admitted that there is much room for improvement.
“This data does not correspond to today’s reality however some of the problems mentioned still exist.”
According to the minister, the government recognises the issues plaguing the judicial system, especially in civil cases, and has already implemented certain measures while others are being examined.
