FAMAGUSTA – A 55-year-old man was sentenced on Wednesday to two years in prison after being found guilty of fraud charges relating to the double sale of a property in Paralimni.
The Famagusta District Court heard that in July 2010 father of two Kypros Kyprianou sold a maisonette in the Famagusta Gardens complex to a buyer for €100,000 and again to a second buyer for €30,000.
In handing down the sentence the court said it had no choice but to take into consideration the defendant’s previous conviction of six years in 1990 for a similar property fraud case.
“The defendant’s scam targeted two victims but also affected many others. His behaviour caused international embarrassment for Cyprus.”
The court also fined the defendant’s company Famagusta Developers €1,000.
