NICOSIA – Long-time fugitive Alexis Mavromichalis, 36, aka Alexoui was remanded on Wednesday for three days in custody in connection with a 2009 murder attempt of a notorious convict.
Mavromichalis who evaded the authorities for nearly four years was apprehended at Larnaca Airport on Monday night after departing a flight from Athens.
Nicosia District Court said the suspect is unlikely to intimidate witnesses or tamper with evidence but approved the three-day remand for the case to be further investigated.
He is wanted in connection with the attempted murder of life-serving convict Andreas Gregoriou in Nicosia on December 25, 2009.
Gregoriou, who was sentenced last year for his role in the murder of media boss Andis Hadjicostis, lost three toes in the Christmas Day car bomb attack.
