The Sovereign Bases Area (SBA) Police on Friday morning confirmed that the 17-and-a-half-year-old son of a blind man killed in a Trachoni house fire on January 21 is in their custody in connection with the death.
According to an SBA officer, the teenager was arrested and remanded on Tuesday and will remain in custody as investigations continue.
Panayiotis Ioannou, 58, and blind since birth, had been visiting a friend but was alone in the house when he died after a fire broke out inside.
British Bases police investigations uncovered that the fire had been set maliciously. Investigations are continuing with developments expected shortly, the officer said.
The Trachoni, Limassol home is situated within the Sovereign Bases Area and so investigation of the fatal fire is under British Bases Police jurisdiction.
