Cyprus today bids farewell to Tasos Mitsopoulos who earned the love of ordinary people and respect across the political spectrum for his integrity and ethos.
Tributes, from political figures to the man in the street, spoke of the humility and modesty which characterised Mitsopoulos throughout his political career.
There were expressions of respect and appreciation in the book of condolences opened at the Defence Ministry yesterday as well as on scraps of paper placed with some flowers outside his home in Aradippou.
The funeral will be held at the Church of Ayios Georgios Kontos in Larnaca at midday and the eulogy will be delivered by President Anastasiades.
There to bid farewell will be the island's political leadership who spoke of a huge loss for Cyprus in signing the book of condolences. The Greek government will be represented by Defence Minister Demetris Avramopoulos.
Members of the government and officers of the National Guard will accompany the coffin to the church.
