Nicosia seems to be pushing hard for confidence boosting measures that would give the fresh round of UN-brokered Cyprus peace talks a much-needed new impetus.
And the US appear to be responding positively, considering the words yesterday of their ambassador in Nicosia John M Koenig.
“I do not want to use the term Confidence Building Measures. It is game changing steps to be taken in order to create a new dynamic for the Cyprus issue that we are talking about,” he said.
“And we discuss these at every opportunity with all of the parties involved,” he added.
The government’s main proposal on the table is for the return of the Turkish-held ghost town of Famagusta to its lawful Greek Cypriot inhabitants under EU and UN supervision.
