LIMASSOL – The driver of one of the vehicles involved in a violent collision with another car in Limassol at 1.50 am on Saturday was driving under the influence of alcohol, was speeding and had jumped the red light, police said.
The 27 year old driver is under arrest in hospital. The two young women in the other car were both injured and one of them is in extremely critical condition.
Limassol traffic police officer Emilios Kafas said that evidence showed that the driver showed “blatant and criminal negligence” as he jumped a red light and slammed into a car driven by a 23-year-old whose car overturned and needed the intervention of the fire brigade to free her and her 26 year old woman passenger.
The young women and the man were taken to Limassol hospital where it was determined that the man was marginally over the alcohol limit.
Because of the seriousness of her condition, the 23-year-old was transferred to Nicosia hospital where she is being treated for head injuries and multiple fractures. Her passenger is in serious condition, but out of danger at Limassol hospital.
The 27 year old suffered concussion and is under guard at the hospital.
