Police are on the lookout for two men who reportedly tied up and then beat a 65-year-old man in his own home in the Famagusta district village of Xylofagou.
According to the man’s statement, the two men entered his home before pushing him to the floor and then tying him up with a tie they found in his bedroom. They are then said to have beaten him around the face and body in an attempt to force him where he had his money and jewelry hidden.
They later left his home but it is still not known if they had managed to take anything with them.
After untying himself, the man ran to a nearby neighbour who in turn called the police. He was later taken to Famagusta General Hospital where doctors confirmed that he had sustained bruises and scratches to his face, body and neck. He was also treated for shock.
