A disciplinary investigation has been launched against a civil servant after it emerged she was given the day off to attend the funeral of late minister of defence Tasos Mitsopoulos but never attended the memorial service. Reportedly, the female Communications Ministry employee was given permission to leave work early on March 24 to attend the funeral. However, her colleagues and manager who also attended the service grew suspicious when they couldn’t see her among the crowd. The following day she was questioned by her superior and admitted that she went straight home but watched the funeral on television. State Treasurer Rea Georgiou is investigating the incident.
