Putting its tough stance on illegal gambling into action, the British Sovereign Base (SBA) Police on Monday staged a large-scale raid on a Trachoni casino, making two arrests and filling several trucks with tools of the illegal trade.
Some 120 officers surrounded and raided the venue in the morning before arresting the casino’s 27-year-old manager and a second, 30-year-old, man. They will both face charges of impeding the police, amongst others.
The 27-year-old is expected to be remanded today and the 30-year-old was due to be released on bail last night, an SBA police spokesman said.
Confiscated from the casino were over €5,000 in cash, two safe boxes, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, 38 computers and 53 monitors, 63 chairs, seven black jack tables, three roulette tables, six roulette wheels, two poker tables, five slot machines, seven dining tables and thousands of chips.
