A builder in Paphos has been arrested and detained in police custody on suspicion of stealing electricity and copper cables from the construction site he was working on.
According to police, the 33-year-old suspect was caught in the act by officers after suspicions that he was stealing from his work place. The man, along with a second person who was not arrested, had been working on a building side in Geroskippou and they were both observed in the area and on the site hours after work for the day had ceased.
He was then seen removing electricity and copper cables.
The foreman at the site later told police that although the stolen material amounted to €500, the damage incurred on the construction site as a result of their removal amounted to €10,000.
A Paphos magistrate remanded the suspect in police custody for three days with investigators set to charge him with conspiracy to commit a crime, theft and damaging property.
