Five-star InterContinental Aphrodite Hills Resort Hotel in Paphos is expected to change hands within two to three weeks’ time, managing director Demetris Demetriou told The Cyprus Daily on Thursday.
“We expect a pre-agreement with TUI - Thomson Sensatori – to be reached within two to three weeks’ time. I assume it will no longer be called Aphrodite Hills InterContinental, it will be called Aphrodite Hills Sensatori,” Demetriou said.
“It will no longer be part of the InterContinental franchise, negotiations with Thomson are at a very advanced stage, it’s taking longer than expected because the bank, the board, the owners, are all involved. It is a bit too complicated but the deal is not off,” he added.
At the same time, Thomson have issued a statement saying they were forced to postpone bookings for the Aphrodite Hills Resort - due to start today - as its flagship Sensatori all-inclusive hotel.
It had not yet signed a contract to operate the hotel, despite announcing two weeks ago that it was taking over the property for 2015, the statement also said.
“As a result, agents will not be able to take bookings until negotiations are complete,” it added.
The world’s biggest operator also said that it remained committed to operating Aphrodite Hills as part of its Sensatori portfolio from summer 2015.
Demetriou said he was not aware why Thomson rushed to make the announcement on April 12 with regards to the re-branding of Aphrodite Hills Resort.
A statement issued by Aphrodite Hills yesterday said: “The mention of Aphrodite Hills in the TUI press release is in our opinion, premature. Our aim is for these discussions to be concluded within the next few weeks, during which TUI (Thomson Sensatori) will not be able to offer this product for sale in their new summer brochure or the web.”
In the meantime, sales for the InterContinental Aphrodite Hills Resort Hotel continue to grow, with sales increasing year on year, it added.
“Until these discussions are finally concluded the operation of the InterContinental Hotel will remain as normal throughout the year and will continue to serve the UK market with our worldwide renowned high standards, ensuring customers enjoy a unique and fantastic experience.
“For Aphrodite Hills Resort, it is business as usual.”
The resort is located in a peaceful area and combines the hotel, a retreat spa, an 18-hole standard championship golf course, a tennis academy, and three Kids Clubs.
