A newly-formed political group, Animal Party Cyprus, will be holding its official launch in Nicosia on Sunday.
In a statement the party said its mandate would address issues including the correct registration and microchipping of pets, and sterilisation programmes to reduce the number of abandoned animals.
Unlicensed zoos and animal parks, the almost-unregulated import of exotic animals and the treatment of livestock will also be on the agenda.
Hoping to make a significant difference to animal welfare issues in Cyprus by providing a political platform for change, the party's launch will be held at the Filoxenia Conference Centre.
Registration will be from 10-10.45am with the event beginning promptly at 11am.
Agriculture Minister Nicos Kouyialis will be speaking on behalf of President Nicos Anastasiades and the launch will also be addressed by Dutch MP Marianne Thieme, the leader of the very successful Netherlands Party for Animals 'Partij voor De Diren'.
Confirm your attendance by Friday, April 25 by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org listing your name and the number of people attending. If you would like transport arranged, please also provide your address and contact details.
