LIMASSOL - The annual Street Life Festival will take place at Saripolou and Athinon Streets on Saturday, May 3. The festival, which is organised by Gifts and Gadgets and the Copy Shop located at Saripolou Street with the support of Limassol Municipality, attracts thousands of visitors to the city centre each year.
“I feel great joy that something which started in 2007 as a small event at Saripolou Street has become established as an annual event. This is the eighth year it is organised! The festival is unique as it encourages participation by the public and entrance is free. The aim is not to make profit, but to revive Limassol’s centre. It is a celebration for the town,” Yiotis Kyriacou, owner of Gifts and Gadgets and the Copy Shop, and festival organiser, told The Cyprus Weekly.
Last year’s event exceeded organisers’ expectations in terms of turnout, as over 10,000 people visited the festival, which takes place from morning until evening. Due to the large number of visitors, festival organisers are advising people to enter the city centre from the seafront road and, if possible, leave their cars behind. “We recommend that you grab this chance to use your bicycles, skates, roller blades and explore the city centre of Limassol,” an official Street Life Festival announcement read.
This year’s festival will be presented by actor Loucas Christodoulides. Event activities will include live music performances by bands and DJs, skateboarding , jugglers , magic tricks, rasta hair making demonstration, and face painting for children. One of the trademark elements of the festival is the graffiti art demonstration. Well-known graffiti artist Paparazzi, as well as artists from 2c Mix media, Studio 8 and other Art Schools, will be giving graffiti-making demonstrations. The Festival’s graffiti is made on the walls of Athenon Street buildings.
The Festival will also feature stalls with handicraft, handmade jewellery, free drinks, old comics and stamps for collectors. The following charity organisations will also have stalls: the Theotokos Foundation, Theotokos Workshop, Funraising Charity Foundation, Dr Yiota Demetriou Dancing Queen, and Sirius Dog Sanctuary.
The Street Life Festival will take place on May 3, from 9am to 7pm. For more information call 25353573, or e-mail giftsandgadgets@cytanet.com.cy.
