LIMASSOL - The owner of a dog that attacked and injured an elderly man in Moni has been arrested.
Speaking to The Cyprus Daily, Limassol CID chief Yiannis Soteriades said a 46-year-old woman was walking her dog – a boxer – without a leash on Sunday when it suddenly went wild and attacked a 76-year-old who was working in a nearby field.
The owner attempted to pull the canine off the pensioner but was also injured when the dog turned against her.
The elderly man was treated for bite injuries to his arms, hands and legs while the dog owner received medical treatment for a wound to her left arm.
According to Soteriades, the boxer is not on the banned dogs list while the owner had all the required documentation for her pet.
β€œIt appears the dog simply went wild and the owner was later arrested for disobeying leash laws.”
He confirmed that the owner was released after having been charged to appear in court at a later date. He said it was still unclear whether the dog will be put down.
