Two Britons were placed under arrest at Paphos International Airport on Sunday night after they attempted to smuggle 30,000 cigarettes into England.
According to a police spokesperson, the cigarettes were found in the luggage of two British men, aged 46 and 33, as they attempted to go past customs control at around 8.30pm. Reports say that the men had booked a return ticket to Manchester on EasyJet flight U2 1976.
Police had discovered a total of 200 cartons containing a total of 30,000 cigarettes that had been bought from the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus.
The two men were taken into questioning at Larnaca Police Headquarters while the cigarettes were confiscated.
