 Cyprus' Search and Rescue Centre responded on Tuesday morning to a distressed call from the Russian Embassy in Nicosia to aid a crew member of a Russian warship just off the coast of Limassol.
According to an official press release, the Center was informed of the situation at 7.30 and then proceeded with the planning and coordination of the rescue operation.
The crew member in need of immediate assistance had suffered a severe head injury and was rushed to Limassol General Hospital by 8.40 am after being airlifted by helicopter.
Doctors say his condition is serious.
